Our work is limited to advice, with fees based on scope and complexity rather than portfolio size. This structure allows us to be completely objective and impartial in all of the recommendations we make.

Common questions.

Didn't find your answer?

What is advice-only financial planning?
Advice-only financial planning means you pay a flat fee for a financial plan and advice, and nothing else. The planner doesn't sell products, manage your investments or earn commissions, so recommendations aren't tied to what you buy. At fPlan, all of our revenue comes from flat planning fees.
Why are your fees lower? Is anything left out?

Nothing is left out. Every fPlan client receives a comprehensive financial plan with the same level of detail and depth you would expect from firms charging much more: your retirement savings strategy, tax-efficient withdrawals and CPP/OAS planning, an independent review of your asset allocation, and year-by-year cash flow and net worth projections over your lifetime. Plans are built with Snap Projections, the same planning software used by many of Canada's top-tier wealth management firms.

Our fees are lower by design. Making impartial, comprehensive financial planning accessible to more Canadians is the reason Julien founded fPlan. As a social enterprise, we run on lean margins and automate back-office administration, so your fee pays for the planning, not the overhead.

What does a financial plan cover?
Core planning covers your retirement goals, including your savings strategy, tax-efficient withdrawals and CPP/OAS planning. It also includes an independent review of your asset allocation and year-by-year cash flow and net worth projections over your lifetime. Plans can be customized for RESP and education planning, insurance analysis, estate planning and other goals.
Can I see a sample plan?
Yes. See the structure and depth of a typical plan in our sample roadmap.Cover page of the sample fPlan financial plan, The BlueprintView the sample plan
Who is this service a good fit for?
fPlan is a good fit for individuals and couples with conventional financial planning needs. To keep pricing accessible, we don't currently offer tailored planning for business owners, people with multiple rental properties or anyone with out-of-country tax obligations. Your free 15-minute call will confirm whether we can help with your situation.
What information will I need to provide?
If you decide to proceed after your intro call, you'll receive a secure, encrypted questionnaire. What's needed depends on your situation. We generally need the relevant information rather than the documents themselves, though we may occasionally ask for one, such as the asset allocation of a complex portfolio. Everything is exchanged through a secure portal.
How is my information protected?
Your information and completed plan are shared through secure platforms in the Snap Projections and Zoho Enterprise ecosystems, hosted in Zoho's Canadian data centres. Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256), access follows the principle of least privilege, and we never request or keep high-risk information such as your Social Insurance Number or full account numbers. This supports compliance with PIPEDA and PHIPA/PIPA. Virtual sessions run on Microsoft Teams, encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2/1.3 and AES-256), so audio, video and screen sharing stay private between you and your advisor.
How long does the process take?
Typically about two weeks, provided information such as pension details or investment statements arrives without delays.
What if I have questions or need changes after my plan?
Contact us any time. Reopening a plan within six months of delivery typically starts at $250. After that, standard planning fees apply, and significant structural changes or extensive rework may cost more.
How do I pay?
Payment is due before your 90-minute discovery session, by credit card through a secure Stripe portal or by Interac e-Transfer. Your advice agreement comes with the digital invoice.
Where do you work with clients?
fPlan is fully virtual and serves clients in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. Quebec is excluded due to provincial licensing requirements.
How are you compensated?
fPlan is fee-only. All of our revenue comes from flat planning fees. We accept no commissions, referral fees or other third-party compensation, and we do not manage investments.
Do you help public servants facing Workforce Adjustment?
Yes. fPlan specializes in planning for public servants who are "Opting" under Workforce Adjustment (WFA), including modelling the Early Retirement Incentive, calculating Transition Support Measure payments and building tax-deferral strategies.
